Last Sunday’s annual meeting & party was attended by about 30 adults and 10 kids.  We had a wonderful assortment of yummy food provided by our neighbors and wonderful door prized. Every child won a prize and the adults won a wonderful assortment of donated prized including: 2 Braves hats, 1 Braves golf shirt (thanx John Ferrell), a $25 Pig N Chik gift card (thanx Bill Marrack), a $10 Get Coffee gift card (thanx Durenda Chapman) and a spa kit (thanx Cordelia Blake Web Design).

The kids created some wonderful art work-we will add that to the website shortly and we heard updates on traffic calming, annexation, social events and other business. The board members who ran were all elected.

Thanx everyone who came-looking forward to seeing everyone again soon!

Three Huntley Hills homes were broken into or attempted to be broken into on March 18 in the middle of the day.  One home on Captain was burglarized.  An alert neighbor apparently prevented the other two homes, both on Longview, from being successfully broken into by promptly calling 911.  At the third home, DeKalb police officers chased two black males (one in brown camouflage, the other wearing dark clothing) on foot after blocking a car (a black Chevy Aveo, rented) in the driveway next door.  The car has been impounded, and many of the items stolen from the house on Captain were recovered from it.  As far as we know, the suspects were not captured and we do not have a better description.

Also between the morning hours of midnight and 8:00 am Thurs. 3/19 a car was stolen on the 4000 block of N. Shallowford in Huntley Hills.  The owner was home and didn’t see or hear anything.  The police were notified.

Please do not hesitate to call 911 if you see ANYTHING suspiscious.  Everyone keep your eyes open and let’s do what we can to stop this activity in its tracks.

Dear Gardeners and Habitat Owners,

Let us hope that March will come in like a lamb and leave like a lamb!  The winds I can do
without – but let them come gently if they must.  So much is starting to open up and burst into
bloom – the redbuds, daffodils, pushkinia, and all the rest of our early bloomers.
Saturday night those who were interested met at Allison Metheny’s home for a potluck to
discuss the Garden Tour.  We have selected the date of May 30.  This is the week AFTER
Memorial Day.  We have a number of helpers, but are still looking for gardens to be on the tour.
Please let us know if you are interested, or if you have a neighbor who would be good. If they
aren’t certified, we might persuade them to become so.  Bunny Fulton is especially good at
this!  This is a beautiful time of year and our gardens should show off well. We had some new
folks attending, and I especially want to recognize our youngest habitat owner, 3rd grader
Sarah Anne Goodwin. She’s quite the young lady – not only for her flower garden for
butterflies, but also for being on her swim team and being a Chinese dancer!  Sarah Anne will
be helping us as a volunteer at the Tour.

Our next meeting is Monday, March 2, 7:30 PM at D’Youville Condominiums. This is across
from the First Methodist Church on Chamblee Dunwoody Road. The clubhouse is to the right at
the top of the hill.  Claire Hayes, director of Dunwoody Nature Center will be our speaker –
many of you know her, and know what a delightful and vibrant person she is!  Please come and
welcome her!  She is a great advocate for the Chamblee Community Wildlife Habitat, and has
wonderful native plant sales twice a year.

April 6 will bring us Jim Yellow Horse Man, a Peace Elder from our Native American tribes.
Jim lives in Clayton, and will bring us wonderful stories and crafts – visit his website at
www.yellowhorseman.com . Plan to bring your children and grandchildren to this extraordinary
meeting.  May is still unclear – have two programs in mind – will let you know later.
With our plants starting to show themselves, it’s time to be sure they have an annual
dressing of compost. If fertilizing, it’s best to use a time release such as Osmocote. This only
has to be put on once.  If you didn’t divide your perennials in the fall, now is the time.  As
hostas show their heads, they can be dug and divided, although this is not necessary. You
might want to mark your other bulbs for dividing in the fall.  As for the weeds, well – they just
are. If anyone has discovered the magic touch for getting rid of them – let us know!  Remember
that chickweed and dandelion leaves are great salad greens.  As you put in new plants, I hope
you will remember to go native as much as possible.

I’m going to ask Tom for an update on the progress at Chamblee Middle School. It sounds
as if he’s going full speed ahead!   Anyone interested in the Flyway Cities Coalition meeting on
March 12, I’ve attached the info to our e-mail recipients. Any others who may be interested, call
me at 770-451-6079.  It would be great to see a good group of our folks down there. I plan to
go if I can get a ride – I would really like to show off the new building, etc. – I was on the Board
of Directors during construction and it has a warm place in my heart.

I hope to see you next Monday – Love,  Kay

This week’s report is short and that’s a good thing.
We also have a winner for our “best excuse for our trying to get out of a speeding ticket” contest.

Robbery
Promenade Apartments Peachtree Blvd @ Johnson Ferry Rd             02/19
A woman was robbed as she left her apartment going to work.  She was approached by a man armed with a gun.  The robber made her go back into the apartment and tied her up then he stole her belongings.  After freeing herself and calling the police, she told us that the robber was Hispanic, average size and armed with a black revolver.  (This is scary.  Please look around as you leave your homes and call us if you see anyone that appears suspicious.)

Assault
4763 Buford Hwy                                   02/19
Police responded to the restaurant after receiving a report of an assault.  The investigation revealed that an African-American man had been stabbed by a Hispanic man after the two exchanged words within the restaurant.  The stabbed victim was taken to the hospital.  Police searched the area and found the attacker.  He was arrested.

Burglary
5404 Peachtree Blvd                             02/17
Burglars broke into the Shell station and stole a large quantity of lottery tickets.

Vandalism
1841 Chamblee Tucker                        02/17
Someone threw a rock through a window at a video game store.

3200 Block of Chamblee Dunwoody    02/21
A man reported that someone slashed two of his tires during the night.  He suspects his neighbors because he had called the police earlier to complain about them having a loud party.

5645 Peachtree Road                            02/18
Vandals spray painted the side of the business overnight.

Theft
4825 Buford Hwy                                   02/17
A woman reported that someone entered her car and stole her GPS and a jacket.  There were no signs of forced entry.  It was probably left unlocked.

WalMart                                               02/18
Officers arrested two men after being called to a shoplifting complaint.  The two men tried to flee in a vehicle but were caught by the officers.  The shoplifters were driving a stolen car with a stolen tag.

120 Wiggins Way                                  02/19
A man reported that someone stole his silver 1994 Honda Accord.  Its tag number is BFX0226.

MORON OF THE WEEK
Some people just shouldn’t be criminals.  Case in point; this guy.
A man reported that someone stole his tag.  Nothing unusual about that, we take stolen tag reports all the time.  What is unusual is that the man found his tag on someone else’s car in the same parking lot. He called the police again to report finding his tag.  The responding officer arrested the owner of the other car.
If you steal a tag, don’t park next to the car that you stole it from.  You will be arrested like that guy.

The winner of the “best excuse for getting out of a speeding ticket” contest is Naomi Jabaley. Here is what she sent:
“Officer, I’m 83 years old, I know I was speeding, I have to hurry home from church before I forget where I’m going.”
So Naomi, call me and claim your prize.  My number is 770-986-5005 ext. 225.

Until next week….
Sgt. Bill Pollock
Chamblee PD
