Three Huntley Hills homes were broken into or attempted to be broken into on March 18 in the middle of the day.  One home on Captain was burglarized.  An alert neighbor apparently prevented the other two homes, both on Longview, from being successfully broken into by promptly calling 911.  At the third home, DeKalb police officers chased two black males (one in brown camouflage, the other wearing dark clothing) on foot after blocking a car (a black Chevy Aveo, rented) in the driveway next door.  The car has been impounded, and many of the items stolen from the house on Captain were recovered from it.  As far as we know, the suspects were not captured and we do not have a better description.

Also between the morning hours of midnight and 8:00 am Thurs. 3/19 a car was stolen on the 4000 block of N. Shallowford in Huntley Hills.  The owner was home and didn’t see or hear anything.  The police were notified.

Please do not hesitate to call 911 if you see ANYTHING suspiscious.  Everyone keep your eyes open and let’s do what we can to stop this activity in its tracks.

This week’s report is shorter than previous reports.  That is a good thing.
Do you remember our contest of who could provide the funniest excuse for speeding?  I said that the deadline was February 12th but I am still getting great entries.  Because of this, I am going to extend the deadline another week and notify the winner in next week’s report.  So if you have a funny excuse and thought that it was too late to submit it, you now have a second chance.  Just send your excuses to either wjpollock@chambleepd.com or cops@chambleepd.com.

Now for the News:

Assault
Pearl Lane                                           02/09
A young man was found bleeding outside of one of the apartments.  It appeared that someone had struck him about the face and upper body.  He was taken to the hospital.  It is still unknown what happened.

5399 New Peachtree                            02/14
Two police officers, Officer Waasdorf and Detective Ngo were sitting in a marked patrol car in the parking lot when they noticed a fight breaking out.  One man had a meat cleaver and was about to chop the other man.  When he saw the officers, he pitched the cleaver but it didn’t help him much.  The officers arrested him for aggravated assault.  Thank goodness that the police were there on the spot.  That could have turned into a homicide.

Burglary
Jefferson Circle South                         02/11
A resident returned after being away for a few days and found that her apartment door had been forced open.  Someone had entered and stolen her television.

Jefferson Circle South                         02/14
A man reported that someone pried open his bedroom window and stole a large amount of cash from his apartment.

Pearl Lane                                            02/15
Officers responded to a burglary and met with the victim.  He reported that someone had broken a window and stole a large amount of cash from his apartment.

Just a note about apartment burglaries:  Please know that renters can obtain renter’s insurance from most insurance companies at a very reasonable rate.  If you rent an apartment or a house, please insure your belongings.

Fraud
Skyland Drive                                      02/10
A Chamblee resident reported that he obtained a copy of his credit report and found that someone has used his name and other personal information to open an account in another state.

Check your credit reports frequently.  It will save you a lot of grief in the future.

Theft
2471 Chamblee Tucker Road                02/11
A man reported that someone shattered his car window and stole his portable GPS unit.
If you leave it in plain sight, someone will eventually steal it.

WalMart                                               02/11
A lady reported that she was approached by a man who claimed that he couldn’t read.  He asked her to help him pick out a few items that he needed.  She tried to help the man and read the contents of the packages to him.  It sounds like the lady thought that she was really helping this poor man do his shopping.  Well it turns out that he was just distracting her so that he could steal her wallet from her shopping cart.
Never turn your back to your purse.  Keep it on your shoulder, not in the shopping cart.

MARTA                                                 02/11
A woman reported that someone stole her purse while she rode the train to Chamblee.  She did not see who took it but noticed it gone upon her arrival here.
See above comment.

4815 Buford Hwy                                   02/13
A woman reported that someone smashed her car window and stole her collection of gospel compact discs.
Now that is low down.
Here is a tid-bit of trivia for you.  Did you know that the Bible is the most shoplifted book in the world?

Cumberland Court Apartments             02/14
Officers took a report of a stolen van but found it a short time later in the apartments on Wiggins Way .  The car thief was still with the vehicle.  He tried to run but the officers caught him.

That’s it for this week.  I didn’t even find a moron story in this week’s reports.  Hopefully there will be a good one next week. Until then, be safe and try to keep warm.
